- My parents are divorced. My dad's family has completely renounced my connection to the family based on racial reasons. I want to leave this narrow-minded atmosphere. I have a lot more to say, but this letter is dragging on, so I'll talk to you later. Thanks for providing the services you do. Without them, I would be completely lost.

- Right now, my life is a mix of ups and downs. When I talk to you, I'm able to break away from my life and see the outside world a little. You're doing a lot more than helping me get into college--You're giving me hope. I don't tell you enough, thanks.

- I hope I'm not asking too much of you and your service. You seem to be a really good authority and to me, invaluable. Your comments and revisions are really insightful, helpful and encouraging. You pick up on things that I don't. I don't know where I'd be without you. You answered every single question I've ever had on this subject. Amazing.

- You are a complete life-saver. You have to be proud of what you do and what you can do. Whether I end up at Harvard, Cornell, or UW-Madison, it's been worth it all the way. Now I CAN relax. Whew. Have a great weekend Dave, and thanks as always.

- I got in! My mom called me with the good news. I can relax now. It feels good. I think you had a good idea that I'd get into Chicago. As I hope I'll say many times in the next month, thank you. I couldn't have done it with out you, nor would I have wanted to. You lessened the stress of admissions more than can be expressed with words.

- It hit me hard. Columbia! I got in, which I should rather say: We got in!

- I can't express my happiness. So many thoughts are whirling in my head. I can't thank you enough.

- You never run out of good, positive things to say. Your writing is ignited with color and feeling, and I love reading it. As my letters to you fade in their expressiveness, your responses are fired back with the consistent flavor, so to speak, in happy contrast to mine. Your writing speaks volumes.

- Of course I will stay in touch, for you've long ago stopped being my advisor but my friend. We've got college, graduate school, and the years beyond, I hope, to discuss our lives together. Perhaps the letters may spread out, but they will never stop relaying back and forth. Ok, college admissions are done. I like to think that we've superseded that into something else.

- You'll definitely be my invite to my Yale graduation and Nobel Prize acceptance.

- Dave, your impact on my life has been huge. My mom and I include you as a part of our small family, and it isn't unwarranted. No one has believed in me as you have or encouraged me as you have, and obviously this has manifested itself in a huge way. You're very special to me, and I want you to know that I care about you very much. This isn't the end, this is just the beginning of forever together.

- Your last letter was amazing. It really gave me a lot of confidence in myself, and it feels really good to know that you're proud of me. Thank you for that. I'm going to frame your last letter with a bunch of your others.

- I can't believe how much my life has changed with you as the catalyst.

- I am still anxiously awaiting your book on the shelves, and I still want an autographed copy! I'll give it good reviews on Amazon, and I'll brag that "I know that guy." I'll probably sneak something about you into my graduation speech.
